Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (22 September) unveiled infrastructure projects worth Rs 5,125.37 crore in Arunachal Pradesh and interacted with local entrepreneurs to promote grassroots business growth, The Assam Tribune reported.

From Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar, Modi virtually laid the foundation stones for two major hydropower projects in Shi Yomi district and a convention centre in Tawang.

The Tato-I project, with a capacity of 186 MW, is a joint venture between the Arunachal Pradesh government and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) at Rs 1,750 crore, expected to generate around 802 million units of electricity annually.

The 240-MW Heo project, also developed by the state and NEEPCO at Rs 1,939 crore, is projected to produce 1,000 million units yearly.

Both projects on the Yarjep River aim to expand the state’s hydroelectric capacity, bolstering regional energy security.

Modi also laid the foundation for a convention centre in Tawang under the PM-DevINE scheme at Rs 145.37 crore.

Designed to host over 1,500 people, it is intended to support the region’s tourism and cultural initiatives.

Other infrastructure projects worth over Rs 1,290 crore in connectivity, health, and fire safety sectors were also launched.

Governor KT Parnaik, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju attended the programme.

Earlier, Modi engaged with local artisans and self-help groups at an exhibition in Indira Gandhi Park, seeking feedback on GST reforms.

He examined locally made products and highlighted the government’s “Vocal for Local” campaign.

“The interaction served both as encouragement for the local business community and as a reminder of the government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots entrepreneurship in the frontier state,” an official said.

Modi arrived in Arunachal Pradesh on a day-long visit, landing at Donyi Polo Airport in Hollongi and proceeding to Raj Bhavan in Itanagar by helicopter, where he was received by Governor Parnaik and Chief Minister Khandu.
