Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to receive Dominica’s highest national honor, the Dominica Award of Honour, for his contributions to the country during the Covid-19 pandemic and his ongoing efforts to strengthen relations between India and Dominica.

The award will be presented by President Sylvanie Burton of the Commonwealth of Dominica during the upcoming India-CARICOM Summit, scheduled from 19-21 November in Georgetown, Guyana.

In early 2021, India supplied Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, enabling Dominica to extend support to neighboring Caribbean nations as well.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed Dominica's appreciation for Modi’s solidarity and the wider assistance from India calling him a "true partner" amid a global health crisis.

The award reflects strong ties between the two countries and Dominica looks forward to building on this partnership and advancing a shared vision of progress and resilience, the statement said.

The honor also reflects India’s continued aid in healthcare, education, and technology, as well as PM Modi's leadership on global climate resilience and sustainable development.

Upon accepting, PM Modi underscored the importance of international cooperation on global challenges, affirming India's dedication to supporting Dominica and the broader Caribbean region.
