The track doubling project between Prayagraj and Varanasi is nearing completion, with the crucial Ganga rail bridge now fully constructed.
Train services on this upgraded route are expected to commence during the Maha Kumbh.
After track doubling, the average speed of trains between Prayagraj and Varanasi will be 100 and 130 kmph.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will reportedly inspect the project on 8 December.
After the Railways Minister's inspection, Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate this project during his visit scheduled for 13 December, ET Infra reported.
With a modern train like Vande Bharat, the distance between Prayagraj and Varanasi can be covered in about one hour.
The Ganga rail bridge and the Prayagraj-Varanasi track doubling were executed by RVNL, a subsidiary of Indian Railways.
RVNL GM Vinay Agarwal said that the proposal to build this bridge was put forward in 2003.
However, the construction of the bridge began in 2019, propelled by the initiatives of the current double-engine government of BJP in state and Centre.
The Ganga bridge links Daraganj in Prayagraj to Jhunsi.
Additionally, track doubling has been completed near the rail overbridge close to the CMP Degree College in Prayagraj and between Jhunsi and Rambagh, seamlessly connecting it to the new rail line.
