The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), currently housed in South Block, will relocate to the newly constructed Executive Enclave just a few hundred metres away next month, NDTV reported, citing government sources.

Designed under the Central Vista project, the Executive Enclave has been prepared to host the PMO, along with the Cabinet Secretariat, National Security Council Secretariat, and a conferencing facility.

Its proximity to the Prime Minister’s residence will enhance operational efficiency.

The government built the new complex to address persistent space constraints and outdated facilities in the colonial-era buildings.

The ageing structures lacked modern amenities and failed to reflect India’s stature as a rising economic power.

Earlier this month, the Prime Minister inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan-3, where the Ministries of Home Affairs and Personnel have moved.

He highlighted that India’s administrative machinery still operated from British-era structures suffering from poor lighting, inadequate ventilation, and cramped spaces.

He remarked that it was hard to fathom how a significant ministry like Home Affairs functioned for nearly 100 years in a single, ill-equipped building.

Further, the new PMO may reportedly receive a name aligned with other Central Vista projects, possibly one reflecting the spirit of sewa (service).

In his first address to the PMO during his third term, the Prime Minister stated, “The PMO should be ‘people’s PMO’. It cannot be Modi’s PMO.”

Following the transfers, authorities will convert the decades-old power nerve centre—North Block and South Block—into a public museum named Yuge Yugeen Bharat Sangrahalaya.

The National Museum has signed an agreement with France Museums Development to assist in creating a cultural heritage space celebrating India’s past, present, and future.
