Pune Airport is gearing up for a major expansion aimed at easing congestion and improving services for passengers.

The project, costing about Rs 100 crore, will see the creation of five additional aircraft parking bays, a remote bay, and a dedicated cargo terminal on a 13 acre site, Pune Pulse reported.

The land is expected to be handed over to the airport authorities by the end of October.

Currently operating with 10 parking bays and managing nearly 200 flight movements each day, the airport is under mounting pressure from surging demand.

Passenger traffic has already crossed 10 million in the past year, and the new facilities are projected to enable 50–60 extra flights daily, significantly boosting capacity and operational efficiency.

The upcoming winter schedule will further intensify demand with 15 new flight slots, raising daily movements to around 225 flights.

The expansion is expected to enhance connectivity and create opportunities for new routes catering to the city’s fast-growing aviation market.

Parking bays are central to smooth airport functioning, allowing more aircraft to be handled at the same time. Their addition is likely to reduce delays, cut congestion, and improve overall safety standards.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, confirmed the plans, saying, “By the end of October, the airport will receive the land parcel for expansion. The new facilities will significantly enhance Pune Airport’s capacity and provide passengers with better connectivity.”

Alongside this development, work is underway to extend the runway, enabling the airport to manage larger aircraft and cope with increasing traffic in the years ahead.
