In the wake of Pakistan’s failed drone attacks on Thursday (8 May), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday (9 May) chaired a high-level security review meeting at South Block in New Delhi.
The meeting was attended by the top defence leadership and senior officials, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, and Defence Secretary RK Singh.
The review meeting came after Pakistan’s attempted retaliation following Operation Sindoor, where the Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday.
The operation was a direct response to the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack.
On Thursday (8 May), Pakistan targeted multiple locations on India's western borders, including areas in Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur using missiles and drones.
However, Indian armed forces thwarted Pakistan's drone and missile attacks by deploying air defence mechanism including the S-400, upgraded Bofors L-70 guns, and Soviet-origin Schilka systems to counter the aerial threats.
"Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along entire Western Border on the intervening night of 08 and 09 May 2025," the Indian Army said in a statement on Friday (9 May).
Pak troops also resorted to numerous cease fire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said.
"The drone attacks were effectively repulsed and befitting reply was given to the CFVs," the Army added.
While the Army did not disclose specific operational details, the force said that it "remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation".
"All nefarious designs will be responded with force," the statement added.
