A day after talks with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee could not take place due to the unfulfilled demands of the doctors protesting the RG Kar rape and murder, they wrote to President Droupadi Murmu.

Written to Murmu, the letter has been copied to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda seeking their intervention in assuring them justice.

The protesting doctors are demanding justice for the 31-year-old trainee doctor, whose dead body was found in the seminar hall of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata after rape and murder.

Calling it 'the most despicable crime,' the healthcare professionals under the West Bengal Health Department expressed their desire to discharge duties to the public without fear and apprehension.

Highlighting the rise in "institutional threats, violence and vandalism", the doctors sought President Murmu's intervention as it 'will act as a beacon of light', showing us the way ahead out of the 'darkness that surrounds' them.

Earlier, President Murmu had herself expressed that she felt 'dismayed and horrified' over the Kolkata case and other crimes against women as it is part of a series that even includes kindergarten girls as victims.

Meanwhile, in another update on the case, the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) request seeking a psycho-analysis test of the accused Sanjay Roy has been rejected by the Sealdah court as the accused denied consent.

Last month, the central investigative agency conducted a polygraph test on Roy and found that his claim to innocence in the rape and murder case of the 31-year-old trainee doctor is "false and unconvincing."
