As part of their ongoing inquiry into the alleged criminal conspiracy and evidence tampering related to the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has called upon 11 Kolkata police officers for interrogation on Monday and Tuesday.

The parents of the victim filed an official grievance with CBI Director Praveen Sood on Saturday, voicing their discontent over what they perceive as a sluggish and unproductive investigation.

The officers called upon encompass assistant sub-inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables from the Tala police station in West Bengal, who were stationed at the hospital campus police outpost on the day the incident occurred.

A female medic, who was on duty, became the victim of rape and murder at a government-operated hospital on 9 August in the previous year. This incident led to widespread fury across the nation, notably among those in the medical profession.

On the 20 January, a court in Sealdah handed down a life sentence to civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy, the only person convicted in a rape and murder case. Despite the severe nature of the crime, the court stated it did not fall within the "rarest of the rare" category, therefore ruling out the death penalty and opting for life imprisonment instead. Roy was convicted under sections 64, 66, and 103/1 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Additionally, the CBI presented a status report to a Sealdah court on 25 February about the supposed manipulation of evidence in the case. They asserted that the inquiry is still in progress and a supplementary chargesheet will be submitted shortly.
