Anuj Thapan, one of the arms suppliers involved in the firing incident outside actor Salman Khan's house, today (1 May) died by suicide while in police custody, as per a report by NDTV.

Thapan, aged 32, was arrested from Punjab on 26 April. He reportedly went to a toilet attached to the police lock-up at 11 am and took his own life. Thapan was among 10 other inmates in the lock-up, guarded by four to five policemen.

Thapan and another accused, Sonu Subhash Chander, were allegedly involved in supplying the weapons used in the firing outside Salman Khan's Mumbai home on 14 April.

The circumstances leading to Anuj Thapan's suicide are currently under investigation.

Former senior police officer P K Jain stated that any death in police custody is treated as a murder case, and all policemen in the police station will be questioned by the CID (Criminal Investigation Department).

Jain also mentioned that police usually ensure lock-ups are checked for objects that could be used for suicide.

Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, who are also in police custody, are accused of firing the shots and were seen on CCTV leaving the area on a motorcycle on the night of the incident.

All four accused are known to have direct or indirect connections with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, known for activities including kidnapping, murder, extortion, smuggling of weapons and narcotics, and illegal liquor trade.

In November 2022, Salman Khan's security level was elevated to Y-Plus due to threats from Lawrence Bishnoi and another gangster, Goldy Brar. As a result, the actor is permitted to carry a personal firearm and drives an armoured vehicle.

In another piece of news today, Goldy Brar was reported to be shot dead in the US by his rival gang of Arsh Dalla and Lakhbir. Brar is the alleged mastermind of the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
