A court in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday (16 January) issued non-bailable warrants for 24 suspects accused in the 24 November 2024 violence outside Shahi Jama Masjid over a court-ordered survey.

These individuals are currently on the run and purportedly connected to the widespread unrest that led to the death of four civilians and injuries to dozens of people including over two dozen police personnel.

“We have arrested 60 accused, including six women, who pelted stones on the police from their rooftops that day," Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Kumar Bishnoi was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

'As many as 91 more offenders are under the police radar for their involvement in the violence. They have either taken shelter in other states or at places of their relatives in nearby districts," he said.

Mohsin, aged 28, and Husnain, aged 32, were apprehended by the police on Thursday following their identification from CCTV footage. They are charged with inciting violence in the vicinity of the mosque located in the Hindupura Kheda area.

Adnan Mohammed, 30, a resident of the Deepa Sarai area, is among the 60 accused individuals who were arrested. It's alleged that Mohammed fired at the SP amidst the chaos.

His arrest took place at Batla House in New Delhi. Additionally, the police apprehended Zikra Khatun, 45, who is accused of throwing stones at high-ranking police officers and was visible in a viral video.
