'Sanjay Roy Committed Crime, No Gang Rape': CBI Files Charge Sheet In RG Kar Trainee Doctor's Murder Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against accused Sanjay Roy in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Roy, who was employed as a civic volunteer with the West Bengal police, is accused of committing the crime when the victim had gone to rest in the hospital’s seminar room during a break.

Hindustan Times reported that the CBI submitted the charge sheet to a special court in Kolkata, specifying that Roy acted alone, with no mention of gang rape, against the allegations by the victim's parents.

The trainee doctor had been found raped and murdered in the seminar room, where she had gone to sleep during a late-night shift. Her body was discovered by a junior doctor on 9 August morning.

CCTV footage showed Roy entering the seminar room at 4:03 am and leaving about half an hour later. The police also found his Bluetooth headphones at the crime scene.

After the CBI took over the investigation, Roy underwent a lie-detector test during which he claimed innocence, stating that when he entered the room, the woman was already unconscious.

However, the CBI indicated that Roy was attempting to mislead investigators. The investigation also led to the arrest of Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College.

He is accused of misleading the victim's parents and tampering with evidence, allegedly trying to present the murder as a suicide.

Reports suggest Ghosh may have been involved in corrupt activities, including the sale of unclaimed bodies. A local police officer was also arrested in connection with the case.
