In a significant diplomatic development, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi engaged in their first telephone conversation on 11 October, as reported by NDTV.
This landmark exchange follows a China-brokered deal between Tehran and Riyadh, aimed at restoring diplomatic relations that had been strained for seven years.
The rift between the two nations had not only undermined regional stability but had also contributed to conflicts across the Middle East, from Yemen to Syria.
During their conversation, both leaders turned their attention to the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Iranian state media reported that Raisi and the Saudi Crown Prince emphasised the imperative "to end war crimes against Palestine".
In response, the Saudi state news agency SPA highlighted the kingdom's relentless efforts to engage with international and regional stakeholders to de-escalate the situation in the region.
Furthermore, the Saudi Crown Prince reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's strong commitment to rejecting any actions targeting civilians.
The resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran holds the potential to foster constructive dialogues on enduring challenges such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which has long been a central concern in the Middle East.
