Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (5 August) mocked the Opposition for demanding a debate on Operation Sindoor, saying they “shot themselves in the foot” and “got thrashed badly” during the Parliament’s Monsoon session, reported NDTV.

Addressing the NDA parliamentary party meeting, PM Modi said the Opposition made a “mistake” by pushing for a discussion on the military operation that targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“The Opposition was insistent on self-harm,” he was quoted as saying.

This marked the second NDA meeting during a Parliament session since the Modi government returned to power in June 2024.

The MPs also felicitated PM Modi for his “exceptional leadership” during India’s response to the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people and prompted the launch of Operation Sindoor on 7 May.

In a resolution, NDA MPs hailed PM Modi’s “unwavering resolve, visionary statesmanship and resolute command,” saying it had “ignited a renewed spirit of unity and pride in the hearts of all Indians.”

They praised the Indian armed forces for their “unmatched courage and unwavering commitment.”

According to the resolution, Operation Sindoor was a “non-escalatory, precise and targeted attack” on terror infrastructure, reinforcing India’s “zero tolerance” towards terrorism.

They also highlighted the government’s post-operation global outreach. “After Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister ensured 59 Members of Parliament from across parties visited 32 countries to present India’s point of view,” calling it “one of the most comprehensive global outreach efforts ever launched by India.”
