Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from South Chennai, today came down heavily on those body shaming her, especially after her loss in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In a clip that was widely shared on social media, she could be heard saying that the IT cell putting out derogatory posts should be brought under control and that failures in elections are part and parcel of politics. She stated that while her party had not won seats in Tamil Nadu, it had won at the all India level.

Further, referring to some caricatures of her which allegedly depicted her as having a wig, she touched her hair and said that it was original. “I may not be very good looking but I too never called myself beautiful,” she mentioned.

She added that the 40 MPs of the DMK, who were elected from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, were not going to be of any use as they would only stage walkouts, or conduct protests and write letters.

A few days earlier, the BJP lodged a complaint with the Chennai city police commissioner after derogatory images of PM Narendra Modi were posted by DMK supporters in the wake of his visit to Vivekananda Rock Memorial for meditation.

BJP members had then questioned the DMK government and the Tamil Nadu police for their double standards in the handling of such cases saying that opposition party members have been routinely arrested for posts and memes posted by them to criticise the ruling party or their leaders.
