Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Labels SIR As ‘Conspiracy To Rob Citizens Rights', Calls For All Party Meeting

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has called an all-party meeting on 2 November to deliberate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase-2, soon after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the next round of voter roll revisions across 12 states and Union Territories, reported News18.

During a consultation held shortly after the ECI’s announcement, MDMK founder Vaiko said, “The DMK president, CM has invited all the registered political party leaders for a discussion on 2nd November at 10:30 am. It (SIR) will definitely be totally unfair.”

Expressing strong opposition to the ECI’s move, Stalin posted on X that conducting the SIR just before elections and during the monsoon months poses major challenges. He wrote, “To carry out Special Intensive Revision just months before the election, and especially during the monsoon months of November and December, brings serious practical difficulties. To conduct SIR in a hasty and opaque manner is nothing but a conspiracy by the ECI to rob citizens of their rights and help the BJP.”

The Chief Minister also referred to alleged voter roll irregularities in Bihar. “In Bihar, large numbers of women, minorities and people from SC and ST communities were removed from the electoral rolls, and the absence of transparency has fuelled serious suspicion in the public mind," Stalin said.

He further announced that the SIR will commence in Tamil Nadu next week, adding, “Following the announcement, we held discussions with our alliance partners, and on that basis an all-party meeting will be convened on 2 November to decide the next course of action. The right to vote is the foundation of democracy. Tamil Nadu will fight against any attempt to murder it, and Tamil Nadu will win.”

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar confirmed that the SIR 2.0 exercise will cover Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
