The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a key associate of Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Lakhbir Singh Sandhu in connection with a significant terror network case.

Sandhu, also known as Landa, was allegedly involved in the supply of deadly weapons for extorting businessmen, among others, according to a report from the Deccan Herald.

Baljeet Singh, also known as Rana Bhai or Balli, from Barwani district in Madhya Pradesh, was also apprehended as per the NIA.

Balli was identified as a major supplier of weapons to Landa’s agents in Punjab, the NIA said in a statement.

These weapons were used to execute large-scale terror activities, including extortion from businessmen and other individuals, the NIA noted.

The NIA's investigations had previously led to the arrest of Gurpreet Singh Gopi, an associate of both Landa and another Khalistani terrorist, Satnam Singh Satta.

The case, which the NIA registered suo moto on 10 July 2023, revealed that Baljeet Singh had also supplied weapons to Satta.

This was part of a larger conspiracy involving various banned Khalistani terrorist organisations aiming to destabilise India through violent acts in Punjab and other regions.

Both Landa and Satta are believed to be operating from Canada to promote terrorism in India, the statement added.

The NIA is continuing its investigation as part of its crackdown on Khalistani terrorist outfits, the statement concluded.
