Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai launched a sharp attack on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin while inaugurating the Sabarimala Samrakshana Sangamam on Monday in Pandalam, Pathanamthitta district in Kerala, The Hindu reported.

Annamalai alleged that both leaders were misusing temple platforms while simultaneously opposing Sanatana Dharma.

Criticising the Left government’s Global Ayyappa Sangamam and Tamil Nadu’s Global Muruga Conference, he remarked, “It was Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi who spoke about eradicating Sanatana Dharma and it was Pinarayi Vijayan who invited Stalin. The Muruga conference was held in Madurai and Pinarayi merely replicated it here in Kerala.”

He took a direct swipe at Vijayan’s public references to Hindu scriptures, stating, “Those who claim there is no god are now giving classes on Bhagavad Gita. If you quote from Chapter 12, at least learn that there are chapters beyond it as well.”

Drawing from Tiruvalluvar’s writings, Annamalai added that betraying citizens and misusing laws was a graver crime than murder.

He linked this to the 2018–19 Sabarimala temple protests, saying, “That is exactly what Pinarayi did at Pandalam during 2018–19. Using the power at his disposal, he caused hardship to lakhs of Ayyappa devotees.”

The event drew a large crowd and featured BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, Union Minister and Kerala BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar, senior leader Kummanam Rajasekharan, and leaders from Hindu organisations.

Organised with support from Sangh Parivar affiliates, it was positioned as a counter to the Travancore Devaswom Board’s Global Ayyappa Sangamam at Pampa two days earlier.

Pandalam, one of the BJP’s few municipal strongholds in Kerala, has long been associated with the Sabarimala agitation, which boosted the party’s prospects in the 2020 local polls.
