Three personnel including an Indian Army officer were injured on Sunday (10 November) during a gunfight with terrorists in a remote forest area in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), officials reported.

The clash occurred in the Keshwan forests when joint search parties of the Army and police encountered terrorists around 11 am, according to the officials.

The operation in the forests of Kuntwara and Keshwan had been underway since Thursday evening, following the killing of two village defense guards.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the encounter was happening in the Keshwan-Kistwar area, with three or four terrorists believed to be trapped. The same group of terrorists was reportedly responsible for the deaths of the two villagers.

A heavy exchange of gunfire is ongoing, and further details are awaited. Meanwhile, a joint Police and security forces operation has been launched in the Zabarwan forest area of Srinagar.

This comes after specific intelligence input about the presence of terrorists was received by terrorists. The terror activities in the Union Territory have increased since October, coinciding with assembly election results.

In the last 24 hours, there have been three encounters. In an encounter in Baramulla district on the previous day, security forces killed a terrorist. A joint operation was launched by the security forces and state police in Rajpura following the detection of suspicious activity in the area.

The encounter began when terrorists opened fire on the forces, according to the Indian Army's Chinar Corps. "One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces during the ongoing operation in the general area of Rajpura, Sopore, Baramulla," they stated.
