The United Democratic Front (UDF) announced its seat-sharing arrangement in Kerala for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday (28 February).
As per this arrangement, the Congress will contest 16 seats, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) two seats and Kerala Congress and RSP (B) one seat each of the 20 Kerala seats.
According to OnManorama, the Congress is set to give a Rajya Sabha seat to the IUML rather than giving it a third seat in the Lok Sabha elections. This was confirmed by Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan.
With this announcement, the IUML announced its two Lok Sabha candidates as well. ET Mohammed Basheer will contest from Malappuram and Abdussamad Samadani will contest from Ponnani.
In the 2019 elections, IUML won both these seats but the interesting thing is that Basheer won from Ponnani and Samadani from Malappuram at that time. However, their seats have been interchanged this time.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
