'We Call For...': India's Strong Response After Iran Launches Drones, Cruise Missiles At Israel

India on Sunday (14 April) called for 'immediate de-escalation' of hostilities between Israel and Iran.

This comes after Iran launched hundreds of drones and cruise missiles at Israel in an unprecedented attack.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the Israel-Iran hostilities are threatened the peace and security in the West Asian region.

"We are seriously concerned at the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran which threatens the peace and security in the region. We call for immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy," the MEA said in a statement.

The MEA added that it is closely monitoring the "evolving situation".

"We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. Our Embassies in the region are in close touch with Indian community," the ministry said.

"It is vital that security and stability are maintained in the region," it added.

Iran on Saturday night launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel, in the Islamic Republic’s first ever direct attack on the Jewish state.

With the help of its key allies including US, France, UK and Jordan, Israel claimed to have intercepted some 99 per cent of the launches during the mass strike, but added that some ballistic missiles had reached Israel, damaging the key Nevatim air base in southern Israel which remained operational.
