The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has officially transferred ownership of 441 hectares of land across 18 villages in the Yeida area (Yamuna City), including the catchment zone of Noida International Airport, to its name.
The move aims to prevent land-related fraud and ensure smooth execution of ongoing and upcoming development projects, officials said.
The land, acquired years ago from 3,695 farmers, had not been updated in official records, leaving the title in the farmers’ names despite payment of compensation and allotment of residential plots.
This documentation gap had resulted in cases of illegal sale, bank loans, and unauthorised cultivation on plots meant for development.
Yeida CEO Rakesh Kumar Singh said, “This gap in documentation led to several instances of misuse, including illegal sale, bank loans, and cultivation on acquired plots. The transfer will now contain such irregularities and ensure clarity in ownership. Yeida has now officially recorded and transferred the acquired land in its name. This will help maintain transparency in property transactions and stop frauds involving the sale or mortgaging of land that already belongs to the Authority.”
Although land for development is acquired either through mutual consent or under the Land Acquisition Act, updating ownership records was often delayed or overlooked, the officials noted.
In many instances, fraudulent activities were discovered only when Yeida took physical possession of the land for development, leaving lodging an FIR against the offenders as the only recourse.
With the updated records, Yeida expects to avoid future ownership disputes, protect land under its jurisdiction from misuse, and facilitate the timely implementation of infrastructure projects near Noida International Airport.
