Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath examined the Ganga Expressway on Sunday (27 April) and directed the officials to ensure its completion within the set timeframe, while upholding the highest quality standards, Indian Express reported.
The under-construction Ganga Expressway establishes a connection between Meerut in the west and Prayagraj in the east, thereby bridging the two extremities of the state. It is being developed by Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) through a few construction firms.
The CM journeyed via the expressway by car, assessing the quality of the construction. He was also informed about the incorporation of German technology into the project. Furthermore, he engaged in conversation with the workers present at the site.
He assessed the advancement of the construction work in three districts, namely Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, and Hapur. He conducted an aerial survey in Shahjahanpur to review the progress of the project, which includes the development of a 3.5 km-long airstrip.
An airshow is set to take place on this airstrip on the 2 and 3 May. Officials have stated that a night landing on an expressway airstrip has never been performed before, and it's planned that the Ganga Expressway will be the first to host such an event in the presence of the Chief Minister.
The CM carried out the inspection, accompanied by Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, officials from UPEIDA, and representatives from the district public.
The foundation stone for this project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Shahjahanpur on 18 December 2021. Starting from Bijauli village on the Meerut-Bulandshahr road (NH-334), the expressway extends to Judapur Dandu village, situated near the Prayagraj Bypass (NH-19).
The Expressway plays a vital role in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Yojana as well. The expressway will establish a connection between a total of 12 cities, namely Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.
The highway will span across a total of 518 villages. It is understood that the expressway currently being built on a land area of 7453.15 hectares carries a total expense of Rs 36,230 crore.
