With Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan set to attend the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting on 18 July, politics in the state is once again abuzz with rumours about the position of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

While the TDP has not received an invite from the BJP to attend the meeting, it has expressed its interest in joining hands with the BJP, after leaving the alliance a few years ago over the issue of special status for the state.

TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is believed to have discussed the prospect of an alliance with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during their meeting in Delhi on 3 June.

According to political commentators, Kalyan is likely to speak to the BJP national leadership about including the TDP in the alliance in order to strengthen the opposition to the ruling Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP).

Naidu has also supported Kalyan in his recent criticism of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on the ward and village volunteers system.
