On Wednesday (23 August), the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at the residence of Vinod Verma, the political advisor to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
Raids were also conducted at the residences of an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to CM, Ashish Verma and Manish Banchhor in Raipur.
Baghel launched a strong criticism on X against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of deploying ED teams to the homes of his political advisor, OSD, and close ones.
CM Baghel posted sarcastically on X, "Respected Prime Minister ji and Shri Amit Shah ji! Thank you very much for the priceless gift you have given me on my birthday by sending ED to my political advisor, OSD, and close aides."
Sources indicate that searches were also carried out at the premises of a businessman in Durg. The specific case for which these searches were conducted has not been disclosed yet.
At Vinod Verma's residence, some paramilitary personnel of CRPF were observed in the Officers Colony at Devendra Nagar in the state capital Raipur.
The ED has been investigating various cases in Chhattisgarh, including an alleged coal scam, liquor scam, irregularities in the District Mineral Foundation fund, and an online betting application.
Over the past two days, the ED has conducted searches at several locations in Raipur and Durg, seemingly linked to online betting activities, according to insider information.
