How Not To React When A Dumka Gangrape-Like Case Emerges

Dear Reader,

In a shocking incident, a Spanish biker-couple was robbed and sexually assaulted in Dumka, Jharkhand. Understandably, there was outrage, grief, and shame. This was unfortunately accompanied by whataboutery, self-flagellation, communalism, and even racism.

With the latter kind of reaction, the incident becomes a tool to push agendas and ultimately diverts attention from the crime itself. This tends to eclipse the actual issue of violation of the dignity of women.

To prevent and deal with such incidents, not only do we need better law and order but also more sensitivity and maturity.
