Amritpal Singh, Khalistan-sympathising preacher and leader of 'Waris Punjab De', had shared a video on 29 March, while being on the run, urging all Sikh organizations across the world to attend a Sarbat Khalsa discussion on Baisakhi regarding community issues.

Following this, there were speculations that Amritpal would surrender on that day in either Amritsar, or in Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda. By doing this, observers said, he would embarrass not just Punjab police but also the Indian state.

The symbolic value of Amritpal Singh choosing the time and place of his arrest would been too damaging for both the Punjab police and the Indian government.

However, Amritpal has not made an appearance in either of the places till the time of writing.

In fact, Commissioner of police, Amritsar, Naunihal Singh is reported to have said that: "“There is no exact information about Amritpal Singh's arrival here. We would like to reiterate that any person who wants to surrender should do it immediately and actions will only be taken against him as per law".

Amritpal has been on the run since mid-March and the hunt for him continues.
