The upcoming five-day special session of Parliament, set to commence next Monday (18 September), will witness lawmakers bidding farewell to the old Parliament building.

The inauguration of the new building is scheduled for Ganesh Chaturthi on 19 September, Economic Times reported citing government insiders.

During the first day of the special session, both Houses will engage in discussions regarding the historical significance of the old Parliament building, both before and after the country's Independence.

Parliamentarians will have the opportunity to share their personal memories, ET reported.

Following these discussions, there is a possibility of a joint sitting of Parliament, which may take place in either the old or new building.

Prior to the inauguration of the new building, a pooja (religious ceremony) is expected to be conducted on Ganesh Chaturthi.

The special session will witness a change in the attire of the staff members from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats, who play a crucial role in the proceedings.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has been tasked with designing a new dress code for all staff members, including security personnel and officers present during Parliament proceedings.

The previous dress code of "bandhgala" suits will be replaced with magenta-colored Nehru jackets, cream shirts with lotus prints in magenta, and khaki trousers.

Even the attire of the marshals assigned to both Houses of Parliament has been modified. They are expected to wear Manipuri or Kannada turbans as part of their uniform.

Parliament staff members have completed training on behaviour, work ethics, and familiarisation of the new Parliament building.

Additionally, the security staff of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have undergone commando training.

Further, there has been a change in their attire from safari suits to military-style camouflage clothing.

The upcoming three-day meeting of presiding officers, scheduled for 12 October, will be hosted in the new building and will see participation from representatives of over 30 countries.
