Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the newly inaugurated parliament building not only as an architectural marvel but also as a powerful symbol representing the aspirations of 140 crore Indians.
In his address at the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament, PM Modi emphasized that as India forges ahead, the new parliament building will play a pivotal role in contributing to global progress.
"The inauguration of the new Parliament building will serve as a testament to the emergence of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, reflecting our commitment to self-reliance. It will bear witness to our journey towards a Viksit Bharat, a nation that has achieved significant development".
PM Modi shed light on the historical significance of the 'sengol,' a ceremonial scepter, which he installed in the new Lok Sabha chamber. He explained that this revered symbol had been regarded as a representation of service and nationalism in the Chola empire.
He added: "This sengol is a symbol of the transfer of power. Adeenam saints blessed us in Parliament. I thank them. It's our good fortune that we could restore the glory of this holy 'sengol'. This 'sengol' will keep inspiring us".
The Prime Minister also made it plain that the need for a new Parliament was sorely felt not only because the number of members will increase in the future but because it was becoming difficult for even the current number of members to operate in the old building.
Towards the end of his speech, PM Modi expressed satisfaction the new Parliament was only following other achievements of the government which benefited the common citizens at large, like the Awas Yojana and Swachh Bharat.
