With the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on track to suffer a major electoral defeat in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday (23 November) said this cannot be the mandate of the people of Maharashtra.

According to the latest trends, the BJP-led Mahayuti is leading in 221 seats, while the MVA is ahead in only 55 seats.

Reacting to these trends, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut stated that this is not the people’s mandate but suggests some mischief.

He claimed that the Mahayuti had taken control of the entire machinery and remarked, “The people of this state are not dishonest. How can all of Shinde’s candidates win?”

Sanjay Raut further alleged, “Two days ago, an arrest warrant was issued against Gautam Adani in a corruption case involving Rs 2,000 crore. The BJP’s involvement in bribery was exposed, and to divert attention from that, this entire conspiracy was planned. Preparations for this have been ongoing. Maharashtra is falling into Gautam Adani’s pocket; Mumbai is going into Adani’s hands. We protested that Adani should not dominate the nation. These results have been imposed on the state.”

He added, “These results have been imposed on Maharashtra. We know the sentiments of the people of Maharashtra—this cannot happen.”

He questioned how all of Shinde’s candidates could emerge victorious.

Raut also alleged that the BJP had executed a similar strategy in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections to deny Congress the position of opposition leader.

He accused the BJP of replicating the same strategy in Maharashtra to eliminate opposition in the assembly.
