PM Modi Dials Assam CM Sarma To Take Stock Of Flood Situation In State; Assures All Possible Support From Centre

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (18 June) spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and took stock of the situation due to the floods in the state.

PM Modi assured CM Sarma of all possible support from the Centre and prayed for safety and well-being of the people affected by floods in the state.

"Earlier today, spoke to Assam CM Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma and took stock of the situation due to floods in the State. Assured all possible support from the Centre. I pray for the safety and well-being of the people of Assam affected by flooding," PM Modi said in a tweet.

Nine more people, including two children, died in rain-related incidents in Assam, raising the toll in this year's floods and landslides to 55, a bulletin by the state's disaster management authority said.

The deaths were reported from Hojai, Nalbari, Bajali, Dhubri, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, and Sonitpur districts.

Two people were also reported missing in Hojai and Sonitpur.

A total of 18.94 lakh people have been affected by the heavy rain and subsequent flood and landslides in 28 districts of the state, the bulletin issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.
