After the gangster-politician and convicted killer Anand Mohan was released from prison by the Bihar Government, the Supreme Court of India has now issued a notice to the state government over the premature release of the former MP from jail.
The notice came as Uma Krishnaiah, the wife of the Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah, who was murdered by a mob lynching instigated by Mohan Anand, had approached the apex court challenging the directive of the Bihar Government modifying the prison rules which facilitated the release of the convicted don.
The ex-MP, who had been on parole for 15 days for the engagement of his son Chetan Anand, an RJD MP, was released from Saharsa jail last month itself due to the change in prison rules. Notably, 25 other convicts were also released along with him under the same change in rules.
The release of Anand Mohan had caused a political uproar in the opposition, claiming the onset yet again of Gunda Raj in Bihar.
Anand Mohan was convicted in the murder case of Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah on 5 December 1994. Krishnaiah was killed by a mob allegedly provoked by the gangster-politician. He was dragged out of his official car and lynched.
This comes amidst the sustained crackdown on gangsters and mafia dons in the adjoining state of Uttar Pradesh under the BJP-led Government.
