Uttar Pradesh's Municipal Corporation election commenced with tight security at 7 am on Thursday for the first phase of polling.

In the upcoming UP urban body elections, over 2.4 crore voters will participate in electing 10 mayors, 820 councillors, 103 municipal council presidents, 2,740 members of municipal councils, and 3,645 municipal council members overall.

The initial phase of voting encompasses 37 districts across 9 divisions, along with 10 municipal corporations.

Voting shall ensue in 830 wards within the aforementioned corporations, while 9,699 polling places and 2,658 polling stations have been designated for this purpose.

First phase of voting includes districts such as Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Bijnor, and Amroha in the Saharanpur division, while Moradabad, Rampur, and Sambhal are part of the Moradabad division.

The Agra, Firozabad, and Mathura districts are part of the Agra division, and Jhansi, Jalaun, and Lalitpur are part of the Jhansi division.

Other districts to participate in the voting process are Varanasi, Chandauli, and Jaunpur, among others, as part of nine divisions of Uttar Pradesh.

Municipal Corporation has 63,03,542 male and 53,62,151 female voters.

The second phase of polling to elect representatives for 760 local bodies in the state will be on 11 May and votes will be counted on 13 May.
