Chief Minister MK Stalin, accompanied by former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, today (27 November) unveiled a statue of former Prime Minister VP Singh at the Presidency College in Chennai.
Singh's family members were also present on the occasion.
The announcement about the statue was made in April.
Chief Minister Stalin had then said that the government would honour Singh for his decision to implement the Mandal Commission report to provide reservation to OBCs and that his father M Karunanidhi and Singh shared a good relationship as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had supported him during difficult times.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
