According to a press release issued by the state government, Chief Minister MK Stalin has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting an interim relief of Rs 5060 crore for the damage caused by Cyclone Michaung.
The letter would be personally handed over to Prime Minister Modi by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP TR Baalu.
Further, it stated that a survey is being undertaken to assess the total damage and subsequently a detailed report will be prepared to seek additional funds.
In the letter, Chief Minister MK Stalin stated that infrastructure such as roads, bridges and public buildings in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur districts have faced severe damage and lakhs of people had lost their livelihoods.
He also requested the central government to send a team to the state to assess the damage.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
