Speaking to reporters after the arrest of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer Ankit Tiwari for accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M Appavu said that he had been threatened by 'middlemen' of central agencies for three months.
According to a report by PTI, he said, “I learned about the arrest of the ED official through the media. This shows how the central agencies…target politicians and businessmen in the non-BJP-ruled states through their intermediaries.”
About being threatened by middlemen, he said, “He has been issuing threats to me for three months in the name of a central agency. I had to warn him not to try the trick on me as I am straightforward and that God will take care of me.”
Further, he said that a middleman had asked him to go underground and change his mobile number but he had refused.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
