Reacting to the removal of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) flag pole outside his house in Chennai's Panaiyur, early this morning (21 October) state president K Annamalai termed the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government as "draconian" and "fascist."

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, "The Draconian & Fascist DMK Government should understand that it is no match to the resilience & perseverance of a BJP Karyakartha.

"Our Party Flag is a symbol of integrity & sacrifice, and every BJP karyakartha will hold it high with a sense of pride. By taking one down in Panaiyur, you've let 10,000 more to emerge!

"Starting from November 1st, @BJP4TamilNadu will install 100 flag poles every day for 100 days across TN; the 10,000th flag will be hoisted in Panaiyur by Thiru @vivinbhaskaran, who was hurt by the State Police’s aggression while protesting against the removal of the BJP Flag pole. DMK’s days are getting numbered by their cowardly actions!"

According to a report by DTNext, several BJP workers were arrested for protesting against the removal of the flag pole. The flag pole was reportedly put up on land belonging to the highways department.

A statement issued by the party co-incharge Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, stated, "...The growth of the BJP in TN has shaken the DMK, especially Enn Mann Enn Makkal Yatra LED by SRI Annamalai.

"The people of Tamil Nadu will give a befitting response to this undemocratic acts of DMK government in appropriate time, I appeal to all the democratic forces to come forward and condemn this high handed act and demanding immediate release of BJP Karyakartas.

"BJP cadres will not be afraid for this type of acts of DMK Government. TN BJP will fight for justice and will keep exposing and fighting against various anti democratic policies and misrule of the ruling DMK Government."
