In a recent order, Ravi Sinha, a distinguished Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, has been appointed as the new Chief of India's external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW).
Sinha's appointment comes as the incumbent Samant Kumar Goel's tenure concludes on 30 June.
According to the order by the Personnel Ministry, Sinha will assume office for a two-year tenure, taking on the crucial responsibilities of leading R&AW.
According to reports, Sinha, a 1988 batch IPS officer has been with the agency for more than two decades and has worked extensively in Jammu and Kashmir, and the northeast region.
The incumbent, Samant Kumar Goel, on the other hand, was appointed as the R&AW chief in June 2019 for a two-year term. However, he received two one-year extensions in 2021 and 2022 effectively extending his term for a total of four years.
