Adani Group In Talks With Uber To Drive Electric Mobility In India

Adani Group seeking partnership with Uber.

Adani Group, led by billionaire Gautam Adani, is working on a strategic partnership with Uber to roll out its electric passenger cars on the latter's ride hailing platform, The Economic Times reported.

The partnership also plans to bring the services of Uber under Adani One, which was launched in 2022.

Speculations about potential future collaborations between Adani and Uber arose following a meeting between Gautam Adani and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi on 24 February during his visit to India.

"Captivating chat with @dkhos, CEO of @Uber. His vision for Uber's expansion in India is truly inspiring, especially his commitment to uplifting Indian drivers and their dignity. Excited for future collaborations with Dara and his team! #UberIndia," Adani said in a post on X.

Quoting Adani's tweet, Uber CEO said he is committed to scaling up shared mobility and accelerating transition to EVs and is looking forward to take the partnership to the next level.

The ride hailing giant has committed to becoming a fully zero-emission platform by 2040 and has set aside $800 million to help get its drivers using electric vehicles by 2025.

As part of this target, Uber announced the rollout of Uber Green in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, starting June 2023. It has also partnered with Zypp to deploy 10,000 electric two-wheelers by the end of 2024.

Adani, the infrastructure giant based in Ahmedabad, is gearing up to enter the electric passenger vehicle market, and a partnership with Uber is set to accelerate its efforts.

While Adani already has a foothold in electric commercial vehicles such as buses, coaches, and trucks, it currently doesn't engage in vehicle manufacturing. Adani plans to procure cars, brand them, and integrate them into Uber's network. The company recently submitted bids for tenders issued by the government for 3,600 electric buses.
