After Doctors, Cognizant Plans To Hire Sociologists And Anthropologists To Improve Customer Experience

One of India’s top IT companies, Cognizant is looking to hire sociologists and psychologists to increase sales and provide differentiated offerings to its customers, reports Business Standard (BS).

“The aim is to understand the clients’ psyche better and improve customer experience, apart from strengthening the consulting practices that are key to garnering a larger share of clients’ new technology spends,” said R Chandrasekaran, executive vice-chairman, Cognizant. The company, though based out of the US, has a significant presence in the Indian outsourcing market.

"Everyone knows about hiring engineers. Now, for digital business to be successful, we need to understand the end-customer's psychology. Unless you do that, you will never be able to serve him," he said. The company has also added doctors and paramedics to its payroll in the past.

Not The Only One

In 2017-18, one of India’s s top consultancy firms, Mckinsey India hired doctors, railway services professionals and former military personnel as associates and business analysts in addition to the usual crop of graduates of IIT and IIM graduates.

“We have expanded our talent pool as the diversity of perspective gives a robust dimension, richness in team and client benefits,” said Toshan Tamhane of Mckinsey to Economic Times (ET).
