‘Arming’ The Make-In-India Programme: Trichy Ordnance Factory To Soon Begin Manufacture Of Remote-Control Guns

State-run Ordnance Factory Tiruchirapalli (OFT) will begin manufacturing Stabilized Remote Control Gun Systems (SRCG) for the Indian Navy from the coming financial year (FY20), reports Times Of India (TOI).
This will be in addition to the 13 types of defence armaments already being produced at the factory located in the city outskirts near Gundoor (Telangana).
The SRCG will be fitted with advanced features such as remote operation and accurate firing systems. SRCG will be utilised as a weapon station mounted over the vessels of Indian Navy.
Apart from this, OFT has also said that it is undertaking research and development (R&D) projects of 12.7mm lightweight AMR (Anti Material Rifle), 40mm under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) for AK47/Trichy assault rifle (TAR), and 30mm automatic grenade launcher (AGS30).
“The R&D projects are under various stages of developments. Further OFT will also manufacture 12.7mm SRCG through Transfer of Technology (ToT) from Israel,” said an official to TOI.

Recently, the Defence Ministry also cleared the acquisition of 114 Dhanush artillery guns to bolster the Indian Army. These guns would be manufactured by the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and it would be the first such long-range gun made in India. It will fire a NATO 155mm ammunition and can be fitted with a bi-modular charge system (BMCS), thereby increasing its range.
