Attention Flyers: Delhi Airport To Finalise ‘Air Train’ Between Terminals, Aerocity

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi (IGI) Airport is in the process of finalising the route of an “air train” that will connect the three terminals as well as the Aerocity, the hotel district located close to the airport, reports Economic Times (ET).
The “automated people mover” (APM) project is expected to involve an expenditure of Rs 2,000 -2,500 crore and will have four stations, including one at the cargo terminal. Together they will provide seamless transition not only between the different airport terminals but also ensure better connectivity with Metro lines.
Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) is presently working on the financing details and the project is likely to be commissioned in the next three to four years. This schedule is in line with other expansion plans of the IGI Airport.
Though DIAL had first made the air train plan public in 2016 and had stated that it would be built by 2020, the project had to be postponed on account of delayed expansion of IGI Airport.
Getting Very Busy By The year
It was also recently reported that IGI Airport jumped four ranks from last year to become the world’s twelfth busiest airport. In the latest rankings, it has overtaken major international air travel hubs such as Frankfurt, Dallas Fort Worth, Guangzhou and Istanbul’s Atatürk airports.
