Ayodhya Ram Temple Case: Day-To-Day Hearing Begins In SC; Apex Court Rejects Plea For Live-Streaming

The Supreme Court on Tuesday (5 August) commenced day-to-day hearing in the Ram Janmabhoomi case after the attempts to arrive at an amicable settlement through mediation failed, reports Hindustan Times.
According to the report, the five-judge Constitution bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi rejected the petition of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) ideologue KN Govindacharya for the live streaming as well as audio or video recording of the case.
The case is being heard by a Constitution Bench of CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and Abdul Nazeer.
“We don’t know if we have equipment for live streaming or recording of proceedings,” the bench said while turning down the request for live-streaming of the case, as reported by HT.
The matter was referred to the Constitution bench on 9 January this year. In March, the apex court bench had appointed a mediation panel comprising former SC Justice FMI Kalifullah, spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu for negotiated settlement in the case.
However, the mediation efforts failed following which the apex court last week passed an order saying that it would hear the case on a day-to-day basis from 6 August.
