Voters of poll booth number 189 in West Bengal’s Basirhat have launched a protest after Trinamool workers reportedly barred them from voting. As per the BJP candidate from the constituency Sayantan Basu, around 100 voters were stopped from casting their votes.
Basu has assured that the affected voters would be escorted to cast their votes. Following this incident, additional forces have been sent to the polling booth.
This is not the only time voters have been barred from casting their votes in West Bengal. It was reported that some members of the Hindu community were not allowed to vote in the Muslim dominated areas of the Raiganj Lok Sabha constituency.
It was also claimed that voters were beaten up by TMC polling agents and there was rampant proxy voting in the area.
