BJP supporters raise party flags.
West Bengal has seen a spurt of post poll violence following the Lok Sabha elections in which the BJP notched a historic performance by winning 18 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool suffered a loss of 12 seats by winning 22 seats.
Following the results, a BJP worker, Santu Ghosh, who had switched to the party from the Trinamool just a few days ago, was shot dead in the state’s Nadia district on 25 May and a few other party workers were roughed. The BJP accused Trinamool goons of being behind the crimes.
Just a day later it was reported that a 24-year-old BJP worker identified as Chandan Shaw was shot dead in the state’s North 24 Parganas district on Sunday night (26 May). The attack happened when he was travelling on a two-wheeler near the Kankinara Satadal playground, Hindustan Times has reported.
Following the incident, security was beefed up in the area to avoid further escalation.
