Christ Primary School in Mumbai’s Virar East area has been attacked over accusations that the institution was involved in forcibly converting its students to Christianity, reports The Times of India.
This is the second such on the primary school in recent months; on 24 February the school was allegedly targeted by members of a group called the ‘International Hindu Parishad’.
Now, a banner has been placed outside the school premises warning parents of forced conversions at the school. Names of the Parishad and the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal are included on the poster.
The school, affiliated with the Maharashtra board, is run by the House of Prayer’s Church which was established in 1992, and has 250 students, mostly from economically weaker sections, studying there. After the last attack, the school had discontinued its two-hour weekly Sunday prayer session.
School administrator Nilesh Thakur dismissed the allegations against the school and asserted that parents of pupils had stated in writing that no conversions were taking place at the institution.
Authorities running the school have filed a police complaint, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
