Tamil actor Kamal Haasan has yet again courted controversy by calling for a plebiscite in Kashmir, while also referring to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) as ‘Azad Kashmir’ (Free Kashmir), reports The New Indian Express.

“Why India is not holding a plebiscite in Kashmir?  What are they (government) afraid of?” Haasan stated at an event.

He then made another controversial remark by referring to PoK as ‘Azad Kashmir’, which is the term which Pakistan uses to refer to the territory of the state of Jammu & Kashmir it has illegally occupied.

“In Azad Kashmir, they are using Jihadis' pictures in trains to portray them as heroes. That is a foolish thing to do. India too behaves with an equal amount of foolishness, it is not a correct thing to do. If we want to prove that India is a far better country then we should not behave like this. That is where politics begins, a new political culture begins,” he commented.

Haasan has taken a pacifist stance on the contentious Kashmir issue, calling for India and Pakistan to ‘behave well’ so that no soldiers need die.
