Gorakhpur Tragedy: Former Principal Of BRD Medical College Arrested, Dr Kafeel Khan’s House Raided

Former principal of Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, Dr Rajiv Mishra, has been arrested along with his wife Dr Purnima Shukla by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Kanpur today (29 August), News18 has reported.
The STF, along with a team from the medical department, also raided Dr Kafeel Khan’s residence on the intervening night of Monday (28 August) and Tuesday (29 August). However, he was not found at his home.
According to the Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, the STF seized some documents and items from his house and questioned his wife.
Senior Superintendent of Police in Gorakhpur has said the doctor could be arrested if he does not cooperate in the investigation.
The state government had lodged an FIR against Mishra and Khan following a report by the Principal Secretary in the wake of the death of 85 children at the hospital. According to News18, three separate FIRs have been registered – first for corruption, second for negligence and third for private practice.
Dr Mishra, Dr Khan, Dr Satish, Dr Shukla, chief pharmacist Gajanan Jaiswal, accountant Sudhir Pandey, assistant clerk Uday Pratap Sharma of Pushpa Sales, and Manish Bhandari have been named in the FIR.
