Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Captain Lakshmi Sehgal with members of the Indian National Army’s Rani Jhansi Regiment regiment
The government will be releasing a special Rs 75 coin to commemorate the 75th anniversary of flag hoisting by Netaji Subhas Bose at Port Blair, MoneyControl has reported.
A notification regarding this decision has been released by the Ministry of Finance. The commemorative coin will weigh 35 gram. It will be composed of 50 per cent silver, 40 per cent copper, and 5 per cent each of nickel and zinc.
The coin will have the pictorial representation of Netaji saluting the flag in the backdrop of Cellular Jail. It will also have an inscription in both Hindi and English saying ‘first flag hoisting day’.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had joined freedom fighters to unfurl the national flag from the Red Fort to commemorate the formation of Azad Hind Government. On 21 October 1943, Netaji had announced that India’s first independent government will be formed.
The decision to release a coin to commemorate another milestone of Netaji’s life can be seen as a continuation of the government’s policy to acknowledge his contributions to the freedom movement.
