Hyderabad Metro Targets To Increase Its Daily Ridership To 10 Lakh In Next Two Year; A Growth Of Almost 400 Per Cent

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) the second longest operations network after Delhi with an operating distance of 56 Km is aiming to reach the target of 10 lakh commuters per day in the next two years.
The metro services provider currently carries 2.33 lakh passengers every day along the various routes it operates.
HMRL which recently started operating its corridor between Ameerpet and IT hub Hi-Tec City has thus far carried a total of 5.20 crore passengers since its launch (November 2017).
HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy on Thursday (18 April), while addressing a conference on infrastructure organised by the Hyderabad Software Exporters’ Association (HYSEA) said that “We proved sceptics wrong by making a novel public-private partnership to build the Metro a success. The financial burden on the State government is very low”.
The Metro services provider which is currently working on connecting the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) line is confident of completing the project by November.
Once complete the corridor will add another 10 Km to its network. HMR will begin working on its 30 kms connectivity project of joining IT hub to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA).
He also added that “The government is building shopping and entertainment infrastructure around the Metro stations to help passengers cut down on the time they spend on the roads and change the way people commute. They can reach the airport in just 20 minutes”.
HMRL is a Private Public Initiative estimated to have invested around Rs 18,800 crore (US$2.6 billion) in the project with Telangana State government holding a minority stake.
