IT Professional Suggests Cheaper And Shorter Airport Route For Bengaluru Metro Which Could Save Rs 2,000 Crore

In response to news that BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) was looking for an alternate route to the Bengaluru airport via Hebbal, Rajkumar Dugar, an IT professional, based out of Vasanthnagar, has suggested a new route that could reduce the distance by 4.18 km, Bangalore Mirror has reported.
He claims that if his plan is implemented BMRLC can save about Rs 2,000 crore.
Rajkumar Dugar was quoted by the report as saying that, “From Shivajinagar Bus Stand to Cantonment Railway Station, the alignment proposed in Version 1 should be retained. From the station, build an elevated line to Mehkri Circle and from there, to Hebbal Flyover.”
“This alternate, reduced route will cut costs. Also, it will be faster to construct an elevated line. An added bonus is that Madina Maidan will be saved. This will also help reduce traffic along Sankey Road”, he added.
Dugar further said that constructing each kilometre of the metro costs about Rs 250 crore and his route cuts distance by 4.18 kilometre. He claimed that going the elevated way is better as an underground line would take five to seven years to complete.
He also claimed that there won’t be any land acquisition issues at the roads are wide enough to accommodate pillars.
It was reported on 15 October that the Metro line, running from Nagawara to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) was likely to be changed. Presence of the high-pressure petroleum pipeline which passes between Hegde Nagar and the flying school forced this rethink. Due to safety regulations, no construction can come up for up to 9 metres on either side of the pipeline.”
